Tears are acting as a lubricant for the eyes, preventing dryness and protect your eyes from dust and foreign particles. Most of the foreign particles are washed away by tears and creating a smooth surface on the eye and enable them to see well.
Tears can fight against infections and acting as a part of the immune system. Lysozyme, a particular enzyme found in tears, can destroy bacteria attempting to invade the eyes.

Home remedies for watery eyes
Most of the causes are not severe and will reduce without treatment. But it is good to follow some natural and easy home remedies to stop your eyes watering. If you feel like excess tears on your eyes for a long-time period, use these home remedies, and experience amazing results.
Warm eye compress

Take a clean cloth and sterile in warm water for 3 minutes. Apply it on the closed eyes and compress it. Keep the cloth for about 5-10 minutes. Repeat this process twice a day.
Warm eye compress helps you to reduce the discomfort caused by inflammation, fatigue, or eye strain.
Chamomile tea bags

Take two chamomile tea bags and them into hot water for 5 minutes. Then take the tea bags out and let them cool. Once the tea bags are cool, find a comfortable place to lie down, and keep the cold tea bags on your closed eyelids. Keep them for 10-15 minutes.
Chamomile is an excellent remedy for your swollen and watery eyelids because chamomile contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, which can treat your affected eyes.
Safety spectacles

Wearing safety spectacles when you are going out in cold or smoggy weather is a perfect solution for the watery eyes. Safety spectacles prevent you from bad weather conditions and bad environmental factors causing watery eyes.
Humidifier

A humidifier can reduce the dryness of the eyes, causing irritation and watery eyes. Humidifier adds moisture to the air, which can reduce dryness in many parts of the body.
Jasmine flowers

Jasmine flowers are white, small flowers that have a great fragrance. Take a handful of jasmine flowers and put it into a clean glass and add distilled water.
Cover the glass thoroughly to protect from dirt and insects. Leave it overnight. The next day, Wash your eyes from that water. The cooling effect of the jasmine flower can treat your eyes affected with redness, itchiness of your eyes.
Aloe vera

Take about 2 tablespoons of distilled water and mix 1 tablespoon of fresh aloe vera gel in a clean bowl. Take 2 clean cotton rounds and soak them in aloe-water mixture. Then lye down in a comfortable place and keep the cotton rounds on your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. Repeat his twice a day.
Aloe vera antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties can treat your red and itchy eyes.
Honey

Surely you will be amazed by this. Honey is an excellent source of antibacterial properties, and honey can treat your eyes infected by bacteria. But you need medical grade honey for this treatment.
Take two tablespoons of honey and put it into 2 cups of boiling water. Let the solution cool. Take a piece of clean cotton wool and soaked it by the solution.
You have then wiped away the crusty debris at the base of the eyelids and eyelashes caused by blepharitis. The honey treatment takes some time to heal but a better treatment for irritated, itchy, or watery eyes caused by blepharitis.
If you feel like itchy watery eyes, prevent excessive rubbing and touching the eye with your hands. It is worsening the case.
